IC Information
Name: Chara Dreemurr
Canon: Undertale
Gender: DETERMINATION
Age: Physically 11. However time isn't the most linear thing in Undertale, so...soulfully? Heck knows.

History: ⚹It's a wikia post.

That being said, for Chara to be playable in any sense, some justification has to be made into their influence of the game. The simplest venue for doing so is the often popular interpretation of 'Narrator Chara', which plays upon the ideals that it's up to the player to limit or encourage Chara's control over Frisk. The theory itself has a great amount of in game material to base it off, a huge amount of which can be found here.

Personality: Maybe, the truth is... Chara wasn't really the greatest person.

Said the pot to the kettle.

Chara is in a great many ways, a mystery. Much of the information we learn about their personality occurs in a similar fashion to Asriel; very late in both the Pacifist and No Mercy runs of the game, alluding to a huge amount of information that we do not have and may never see. What can be understood about Chara comes from a great many venues, and is subject to a diverse amount of debate across the internet...mostly tumblr. Very passionately tumblr.

To be real, they'd likely enjoy the strife they're causing.

Chara is the adopted child of the Dreemurr family, and is, er, 'not the greatest person'. Despite this, similar to Frisk Chara is somewhat of a blank slate. They have no definable gender, race, age or background, leaving them open to a slew of projection in a much more negative connotation. Undertale allows for this through the use of continually vague statements regarding both them and their past, including their hate for humanity, which alludes to somewhat of a difficult, if not nightmarish experience as a child growing up on the surface.

The reason for their fall is explicitly stated as being due to this, and their unreserved lust for carnage against humanity once in the position to do so is ultimately the reason their plans fail. They are shown as a child with a slightly paler skin tone to Frisk, open eyes, and a wide smile. Unless you piss them off, at which point they look somewhat more of an Eldritch horror.

It's easy to see that this child, among all else, did have a very strong personality in comparison to Asriel's more sensitive nature. Among the few instances that shed light onto Chara, more than once the allusion of them calling Asriel out on being a crybaby comes into play. They were also capable of not only suggesting, but convincing their sibling into helping them die through buttercup poisoning, which would have been a very long, very painful death...if not an incredibly crafty one.

The above also alludes to an almost unerring amount of intelligence; in allowing themselves to succumb to this illness, rather than seeking a less painful option, Chara uses the monsters' lack of understanding of human ailments to play the fool; leaving the circumstances of their death as something tragic, but not altogether their fault. Considering that out of all the monsters who may have known Chara, Asriel is the only one who takes it upon himself to give their dead sibling a bad rep because I mean it's not like you just tried to destroy the world, or anything. Go for gold, kiddo. it's very likely that this more insidious side of their personality was not something that was shown to others on a day to day basis, giving an indication of a 'Golden Child' around those older or more capable of speaking up against them.

The No Mercy run also allows for some insight into how Chara views the monsters as a whole. Within the gameplay, a large majority of monsters are one to two hit kills, easily crumbling under the strength of a less than happy human child and their Determination. Sucks for them, but it also allows us to question the time in which Chara was alive, and did not act out against the creatures with which they made a family. Even injured during their fall, there is no reason that they could not have recuperated and simply begun their acts of aggression at this time- indicating that, regardless of how good or evil they may be, the focus of their ire was never initially monsters themselves. It was, to begin with, only humans who deserved to be erased.

Whilst it is questionable as to whether Chara particularly cared for monsters as whole, there are indications of affection for their family. Within the video tapes found at the True Lab, Asriel and Chara proceed to show a recurring sense of good natured teasing towards each other; ha ha! Now you're smiling for nooo reason! Whilst Asriel was compliant to Chara when placed under pressure, regardless of how much he didn't like the things they were doing, Chara was also capable of showing a willingness to express themselves in ways that made their adoptive sibling and best friend happy.

In a similar fashion to this, pieces of text within New Home during the No Mercy run also indicate changes in emotion when compared to how Chara discusses objects up to that point, even when compared to the Pacifist run. ⚹Still has that sweater, as well as the way they only answer in ellipses when viewing a photo within their bedroom shows that there are still things that do get to this child, even at a point where they have been, and will, continue to mercilessly slaughter anyone in their path.

At this stage one can begin to connect even the No Mercy style of Chara to the Pacifist Run. Much of the 'flavor text' that directly speaks to Frisk carries somewhat of an impatient or sarcastic air at all times; even to the point of being downright morbid, including flippant commentary on their own deathbed;⚹What a comfortable bed! If you laid down here, you might not ever get back up. Even in this run, however, there are indications of things that do get to them emotionally; more ellipses at the wake of Toriel's fight. ⚹Perhaps...you can SAVE someone else.

The major theme to Chara is their connection to Frisk and the amount of LOVE (LV) accrued in the game. As explained below, LOVE is the ability for one to emotionally distance themselves in battle, effectively causing their attack to increase, whilst also taking lesser damage. For a child who appears as flippant and disconnected as Chara, this is integral to their personality.

Frisk is openly admitted to being their reason for waking up. The more LV Frisk gains, the further their 'borrowed' SOUL is distanced, adding to an already distanced personality. It also adds a level of dependence on Frisk that begins from the moment of their first fight, and does not end until, to be cheap and tawdry-

⚹The End.

In summation, Chara is a child with many facets. They are the Demon That Comes When You Call It's Name, they are the future of humans and monsters. They are a sibling, a manipulator, and a child. It's the connections strongest to them that will continue to shape them in both good and bad ways and ultimately prove to decide where Chara stands in the black and white of good and evil, in a a way that can only truly be perceived by a child.

Powers/Abilities: Much of Chara's ability comes from having access to Frisk's Determination, as well as their own. The ability for a human soul to continue to reside outside of the body is explained by Alphys as being a human only ability, and the undocumented capability for the human soul to cause SAVE and LOAD states can similarly be explained as also being such. When in unison with Frisk, Chara can:

⚹Create SAVE states which allow the author to LOAD back to that point in the timeline- only one may be created at any given time, and requires something to cause inspiration that triggers a bit of 'Determination excretion'. You know how when a dog gets so excited it just does a little bit of- you get the picture. If Frisk is apped, they would be reliant upon to continue with this ability.

⚹In a much similar fashion, Chara can also RESET, which brings the world right back to the original starting point. Mind, their fashion of RESET can be a little less pleasant than Frisk's for everyone involved. As above, they would be reliant on Frisk if apped.

⚹ LOVE (LV) is determined by the state of gaining EXecution Points (EXP). EXP can be explained as the action of emotionally distancing yourself from the harm you cause, thus being less susceptible to damage, and more capable of causing larger amounts of harm. This is also influenced by a monster's willingness to be hurt, however Chara is intensely strong in LV, making them a formidable opponent. They can keep going despite significant damage due to this disconnect, and will also pack quite a punch or stab wound pick your poison.

⚹ They're pretty good at dodging shit. 'Nuff said.

⚹ They like taking SOULs. Considering they're now in a computer mainframe this might not be particularly pertinent, but if the mods are willing then this is something I might discuss playing around with at a later date...if Chara's interactions up to that point get them to LV 20.

Keepsakes/Mementos:
⚹Heart Locket: You can feel it beating.
⚹Real Knife: About time.
⚹One long sleeved sweater and a pair of black leggings, shoes.
⚹Bandages. Still slightly sticky; they've already been used several times.
⚹A multitude of buttercups, hidden in their pockets.

Sample:

When the body dies, the soul lives on. There's a quote like that, somewhere. Definitively out of reach in their mind; in Asriel's mind. Their mind. Thoughts are a clamor; ringing bells and GAME OVER, GAME OVER music that never stops. Determination, one might say.

Determination indeed.

The world smells like rain. Asriel's nose is entirely overwhelmed by it; a scent that he's never born witness to before, much like the sights around them. The glow of sunset. A village, nestled at the edge of a mountain. A mountain. The world is such a vast, wide open space...when you aren't trapped underground. Listening to snatches of conversation about the crumbling economy, the overcrowding. The fact that you are the hope of monsters and humans. You alone.

All they had to do was wait for Chara to die, and they had made that part easy for them. Nice and quick. Asriel doesn't like where these thoughts are going. Chara doesn't care.

None of that matters now.

What matters is the houses that they pass by, the shadows on the walls playing out an image of their own. Sharp, curved horns. Large snout. Flowing robes. And a body. Their body. They were such a small, insignificant creature; pallor waxen in death, lips and hands blistered. Sweater hiding bandages and secrets that aren't secrets anymore, but no one cared what they'd done when they were already dying. Just like no one would care now that they were dead.

Death is...supposed to be final. Giving their soul to Asriel had always been the intention; a gift. Something to inspire and enact both the freedom of monsters and retribution to the humans, but- they liked this better. We'll do this together, right? He wasn't wrong. And now retribution is so close they can taste it, dumping their cargo into the flowers and setting off a heavy puff of pollen before turning to face the houses surrounding them; the horrified humans within. The horrified humans running out of their doors. Somewhere in that crowd are their blood relatives, they're sure.

Chara decides they'll die first.

And Asriel really doesn't like that.

The first indication that something's wrong comes when someone in the crowd throws a stone. They could dodge it; easily so. They could dodge it and call down vengeance from the skies themselves, burn all those in their path until nothing is left. But they don't. They can't.

The rock strikes, and it hurts. Soul deep, bruising more than just flesh as rock after rock is cast, as people shout. As they get their guns. Chara tries; they try so hard to retaliate, to move...and they can't. They can't.

Asriel.

No response outside of the way their body bends in one jerky, uneven motion; back down to Chara's level. Collecting up their old body even as sound rips through the air around them, rips through them with the speed of a bullet, and Asriel drops them as pain cuts through all of their senses.

ASRIEL!

He's not listening to them. They can feel his fear and his pain just as easily as they can feel their own growing panic and frustration. Why? Why is he doing this? He's going to ruin EVERYTHING.

Asriel, you have to fight back! They're fumbling, scrambling for excuses. Sound after sound pierces the sky and pierces them and they're dying, they're dying. Chara can feel it; the sickening twist in their soul which is too familiar in too many ways to just go ignored. You idiot, they're killing you. You're going to DIE.

He won't answer. He won't answer, and again, he picks up their body. Successfully stands. He faces that crowd and he hears their roars, and Chara can imagine the look on their face. The raw terror he's projecting to them, and still the humans FIGHT. Still, they ACT.

There's no MERCY here.

Which one of them is crying? Which one of them shakes so hard, they can barely keep Chara's body against their chest? Which one of them walks, and which one runs? It's a rush; a confusing blur of thoughts and feelings and pain that makes no sense, no matter which way they try to look at it. Home. They just want to go Home. They want to go back. They don't want to kill. Idiot, it's kill or be killed.

You've doomed us both.
It's a sudden realization; something that finally sticks through all the other things as they leave the sun behind them, returning to the mountain whence they came. Still. Can't figure out who's crying. Can't figure out who's running. They're dying.

Inevitably, they lose their footing. The human body rolls across the floor, prone before their watery gaze, and it's Chara who screams out. Mommy, daddy! Somebody HELP. The world tips and swims, fur and skin crumbling to dust. It's too late. It's far too late.

There's no room for sentiment. There's no room for this much anger, this much hate. This much sadness. All this regret. Anything Asriel has left to say is meaningless. Anything Chara has to say is equally so.

Asriel.

But they always did get the last word in, didn't they?

You weren't supposed to die too.

Mindset:
Welp.

Initially, Chara is going to be absolutely furious. In fact, that emotion will likely be the running trend for them going forwards for a long, long time. Regardless of how this world may seek to surround them with calming familiarity, that same familiarity is what got them killed in the first place.

Nothing about the place will be particularly unbelievable to them. Rather than worry themselves about the specifics, Chara's focus will be on how many humans have somehow made their way here... and how little they deserve to have a second chance.

G̶̶l̨͡i̵͢t̷c͝͠h̕é͠s̷̷͡:

Everything? Everything.

Chara did Not Have A Good Time(TM) on the surface. Because of this, they have a very big thing against being touched by generally everyone, and are hugely hateful (and terrified) of humans. Since I pretty much have to go to headcanon hell with this kid to make them work anyway, it's very likely that what they faced was a variety of emotional, verbal and physical abuse. The fact that there were bandages in their coffin could also be a reference to self inflicted harm, considering at no point does the narrator indicate the bandages are bloodied or dirty, and monsters aren't exactly known for mummification.

Going on from this, they're not a kid who particularly likes themself. Hating humanity certainly applies to them by extension, so there's likely a very large disconnect between what they see as being right and pure (monsters) and being rotten and barbaric (humans). Undertale notes two suicide attempts made by Chara (with the second being all too successful), and there's a possibility that these attempts were not the first. Good job Monad you brought back the one person who'd much rather be dead.

The fact that they got their brother killed were betrayed in such a horrific manner is also a point of huge conflict for them; as stated above, there are signs throughout the game of genuine care for their family. They will have a huge amount of internal conflict about this- one of those dicey situations where they don't really blame themselves, but important people weren't supposed to...

Killing themself with buttercup poisoning was not The Best Idea, as it would have led to significant blistering of their hands, the inside of their mouth, throat, internal bleeding, vomiting, paralysis, organ failure-

And death. Eventually.

Undertale in itself is a very time shenanigan sort of game, and with Chara mostly unaware of their future, their future itself allows for so much more additional damage. I have on good authority that you guys are Undertale savvy so let me suffer. Amen.
